Is this the price a shop will pay me?
No. It is the pure-metal value at wholesale spot. Buyers deduct refining and margin, so expect 85–95% of melt for platinum scrap and slightly below spot for recognised bullion.
Why is a troy ounce different from a regular ounce?
Precious metals use the troy system: one troy ounce is 31.1035 g, versus 28.3495 g for the avoirdupois ounce used for food and body weight. Twelve troy ounces make a troy pound.
